Weather and Climate Observation Training for Kiribati (Betio, Tarawa, 26 July - 13 August)

Kiribati Meteorological Services have continued to increase its capability in weather and climate observations through a national training workshop, organized and supported by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in collaboration with the Government of Kiribati and Fiji Meteorological Service. 13 staff from Kiribati Meteorological Service participated in the training, with the assistance of Mr. Tan Singh, an expert from Fiji Meteorological Service/RSMC Nadi who conducted the training programme. The three week training was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary for Kiribati Ministry of Telecommunication and Civil Aviation. The training came about from an official request from the Government of Kiribati to WMO. Kiribati is one of the 5 Least Developed Countries in the Pacific region and the training was made possible with funding through WMO Least Developed Countries Programme.
